Dr Hayley Bos

Dr. Bos completed her medical degree at the University of Western Ontario. She also completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency and Maternal-Fetal Medicine subspecialty fellowship at the University of Western Ontario. She completed her Master of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Bos is a Perinatologist in Victoria with special interests in complicated pregnancies and pre-conceptual counselling. Dr. Bos is the current Medical Director of Victoria General Hospital and Medical Director of Maternity for Island Health.

Dr. Bos does not accept Gynecology referrals.

Dr Trevor Cohen

Dr Cohen is a gynecologic oncologist at the Victoria BC Cancer Agency. He operates out of the Victoria General and Royal Jubilee Hospitals.

He received his medical degree from The University of Western Ontario and completed his residency training in Edmonton at The University of Alberta. He did further training in Sexual Medicine with Dr John Lamont at McMaster University in Hamilton. He then practiced in Yellowknife while training in advanced laparoscopic surgery. He also completed a year long program at the University of Alberta in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture for the medical practitioner. Finally settling in Victoria, he worked as a General Obstetrician Gynecologist for 10 years before completing a two year fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He has been practicing as a Gynecologic Oncologist since 2014 in Victoria

Dr John Cooper

Dr. John Cooper received his medical degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1986. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology (FRCSC) at the University of British Columbia in 1994. He is also U.S. Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology (FABOG).

He is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine (Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology) at the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria and is actively involved in the education of student nurses, midwives, and physicians.

Dr. Cooper maintains an active office medical practice specializing in early pregnancy complications, high risk obstetrics and specialist gynecological care and gynecological surgery.

Dr Cooper is also the Medical Director of the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit in Victoria.

Dr Jerome Dansereau

Dr. Dansereau received his medical degree and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Montreal. He completed his fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at UBC. He has a Master degree in Health Science Clinical Epidemiology from UBC. He is a Clinical Professor at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Dansereau is a Perinatologist and limits his practice to high-risk obstetrics. He is fluent in French.

Dr Joëlle Dennie

With a medical degree and residency from UBC, Dr Dennie did an extra year of training in pediatric and adolescent gynecology in Melbourne, Australia. She has been practicing in Victoria since 2009. She runs a general obstetrics and gynecology practice, covering all medical and surgical aspects, and has a special interest in pediatric and adolescent gynecology. She is fluent in French.

Dr James Graham

Dr. James Graham, reproductive endocrinologist, is an Obstetrician Gynecologist trained in Canada.

After Dr. Graham completed his fellowship in Obstetics and Gynaecology at Dalhousie University, he completed a Royal College Certified Fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of British Columbia.

In addition to practicing reproductive endocrinology, Dr.Graham also continues to practice high risk obstetrics, and performs all surgical procedures to enhance fertility, including microsurgery for tubal re anastamosis.

He is an Assistant Professor in the UBC department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr Sherri Hancock

Sherri Hancock completed medical school and her Obstetrics and Gynecology training at UBC. She started in practice in 1999 initially in Vancouver and Victoria. In 2000, she started a practice in the Cowichan Valley. During that time, she also did hospital based work at NRGH and VGH and ran the Colposcopy clinic at the Cowichan District Hospital. In 2013, she moved her full time practice to Victoria. She has a general Gynecology practice and opened a newly renovated office in View Royal near VGH.

Her practice covers all medical and surgical areas of Gynecology but she has special interest in abnormal uterine bleeding, vulvar issues, prolapse and sexual issues. She also works at the ambulatory Obstetrical clinic at VGH and is one of five Colposcopists working in the Colposcopy clinic at RJH as part of the BC Cervical Cancer Screening Program.

Dr James Hayward

Dr. James Hayward (he/him/his) completed his medical degree in Victoria through the University of British Columbia. He completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Saskatchewan, followed by a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at BC Women’s Hospital. He specializes in medically complex pregnancies and pre-pregnancy planning for high-risk pregnancies. He has an interest and experience in working with marginalized populations and in medical education.

Dr Sarah Hodgson

Dr. Sarah Hodgson was born and spent her early childhood in Kenya, and went on to complete her medical school and Obstetrics and Gynecology residency training through the University of British Columbia. She completed extra elective training in menopause medicine and obtained her NAMS (North American Menopause Society) certification. As a general OB/GYN her other interests include advanced laparoscopic gynecologic surgery, and promoting international women's health in low resource settings. She recently spent a year volunteering at a mission hospital in Kenya. She is actively involved in continuing medical education, promoting evidence based gynecologic care in our community as co-chair of the organizing committee for the annual Victoria Gynecology Update conference for the past 4 years.

Dr Harold Hunt

Dr. Hunt completed his medical degree at The University of Western Ontario. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of British Columbia. He has practiced on Vancouver Island for more than 20 years. He is the former head of the department of Gynecology for the South Island. He has a keen interest in education and has received several teaching awards. He was the inaugural director of the OBGYN Clerkship program in Victoria for the Island Medical Program. He was the organizer of the Primary Care Gynaecology Update for 5 years in Victoria. He is a member of the provincial Colposcopy Program involved in cervical screening and cancer treatment. His clinical interests include consultative obstetrics, laparoscopic surgery and vulvar diseases.

Dr W. Kim MacDonald

Dr. MacDonald obtained his medical degree from UBC. He completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Dalhousie University. He did a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at UBC. He has a Master of Science degree from UBC in Genetics. Dr. MacDonald has clinical interests in high risk pregnancy, and general gynaecology, particularly minimally invasive surgery.

Dr Mona Mazgani

Dr Mona Mazgani is a gynaecologic oncologist at Victoria General Hospital and BC Cancer. She received her medical degree at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. Residency training was at Medical Center Haaglanden in the Hague and Leiden University Medical Center. She completed a two year fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the University of British Columbia.

Her clinical interests vary from preventive medicine, such as colposcopy and treatment for hereditary gynaecological cancers to multidisciplinary treatment of complex surgical patients.

She has a special interest in gynaecological cancers and gynaecological oncology surgery.
She provides Gynaecologic Oncology at a tertiary level for Vancouver Island. Dr Mazgani is a member of the Society of Gynaecologic oncologists of Canada, International Gynaecologic Cancer Society and European Society of Gynaecological Oncologists.

Dr Kelsey Mills

Dr. Mills completed her medical degree and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Toronto. She completed a fellowship in menopause and hormone therapy at the University of Toronto (Mount Sinai Hospital) and a Master of Science in Health Sciences Education at McMaster University.

Dr. Mills practices general obstetrics and gynecology and has interests in surgical gynecology, trans-care (member of WPATH), premature ovarian insufficiency, oncologic-associated menopause, and mature women’s health. She has been a North American Certified Menopause Practitioner (NCMP) since 2013, and was the recipient of the Canadian Menopause Society’s Young Scholar Award. She is an inaugural board member of the Menopause Foundation of Canada, and was elected to the board of the Canadian Menopause Society. She is a Clinical Associate Professor at UBC.

Dr David Quinlan

Dr. Quinlan is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of British Columbia.

He received his medical degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1983. Residency training was at the University of Natal, the University of Auckland and the University of British Columbia. He completed a 2-year Fellowship in Pelvic Surgery at the University of Utah (1993 – 1995). Dr. Quinlan has been a Visiting Consultant in Urogynaecology at both St George’s Hospital, London and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, University of Cambridge.

His clinical interests involve most aspects of gynecology and include both non-surgical and surgical management. He has a special interest in abnormal uterine bleeding, pre-invasive disease of the cervix and pelvic floor disorders.

Dr. Quinlan has extensive experience in international women’s health. He was awarded the 2012 Walter Mackenzie Fellowship in Surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for fistula work in Ethiopia.

Dr. Quinlan is past president of the Western Society of Pelvic Medicine and was a board member of the Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Canada. He was Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Island Health. He is currently the Island Lead for the BC Cervical Cancer Screening Program.

Dr Emily Sandwith

Dr. Emily Sandwith is a Urogynecologist. She obtained her medical school degree from the  University of British Columbia and was a member of the Island Medical Program. She then moved  to complete her Residency in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Calgary.  She completed a two year Fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Calgary. She happily returned to Victoria in 2020 and joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.  Her primary clinical interests are in conservative and surgical management of pelvic floor disorders, including urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Dr. Sandwith is not accepting Obstetrical referrals.

Dr Flora Teng

Dr. Teng completed her Bachelor’s Degree at McGill University, followed by a Master of Public Health at Yale University. She went on to obtain her Medical Degree and OB/GYN specialty training from the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Teng has an interest in minimally-invasive gynaecologic surgery, high-risk obstetrics, and family planning.

Dr. Teng provides gynecology care out of Saanich Peninsula Hospital and provides obstetrical care at Victoria General Hospital. She welcomes both English and Mandarin-speaking patients.

Dr Kellie Whitehill

Dr. Kellie Whitehill completed her medical school training through the University of Manitoba in her hometown of Winnipeg in 2004. She subsequently moved to Vancouver for her residency training and upon completing this in 2009 continued to work in Vancouver with positions at BC Women’s Hospital and Vancouver General Hospital. She was very lucky to be able to move to Victoria to join the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2013. Dr. Whitehill provides consultative obstetrical care at Victoria General Hospital. Her gynecological practice is full service, providing both medical and surgical care for all gynecologic conditions.

Dr. Whitehill’s special interests include medical education and international medical aid work. She has had the opportunity to provide volunteer medical care in Shantou China and Kampala Uganda, and is a founding member of a local non-profit surgical aid group (The C.A.R.E Team Service Society) that has been providing surgical care to the underserved Mayan population of Guatemala since 2015.

Dr Samantha Wong-Merrick

Dr Samantha Wong-Merrick received her medical degree and specialty training in obstetrics and gynecology at UBC in 2018. She has completed additional training in fertility and pelvic ultrasound. After practicing around southern Vancouver Island, she is thrilled to settle in Victoria. She provides consultative obstetric care through Victoria General Hospital.
